WHAT DOES JESUS 'SAVE' US FROM?

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” Proverbs 9:10

The Bible teaches that because of the fall of Adam and Eve, all people are born with a sin nature and are on the road to hell because of their sin. However, through faith in Jesus Christ, people can be saved and go to heaven.

According to the Bible, Jesus spoke about hell more than any other figure in the New Testament.

WHAT JESUS SAYS ABOUT HELL

  • Eternal Punishment: Jesus taught that hell is a place of eternal punishment, where the wicked will be tormented day and night forever. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. (Matthew 25:46 KJV)
  • Fire and Darkness: Jesus described hell as a place of unquenchable fire and outer darkness: "And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched." (Mark 9:43 KJV) "Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 22:13 KJV)
  • Weeping and Gnashing of Teeth: Jesus said that those who are cast into hell will weep and gnash their teeth in anguish and regret:  "And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 13:42 KVJ) "And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 24:51 KJV)
  • No Escape: Jesus taught that there is no escape from hell, and that those who are cast into it will not be able to come out:  "And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us." (Luke 16:26 ESV)
  • Warning: Jesus warned people about the dangers of hell, saying that anyone who is angry with their brother or sister will be in danger of the fires of hell: "But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire." (Matthew 5:22 ESV).
  • Contrast with Heaven: Jesus contrasted hell with heaven, saying that those who are saved will inherit eternal life and will not be judged, but those who are lost will be cast into hell: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life."(John 5:24 KJV).
  • Gehenna: Jesus used the term “Gehenna” to describe hell, which was a real place in Jerusalem where dead bodies and trash burned in smoldering fires. This imagery was used to convey the idea of a place of eternal torment and destruction.

HELL TESTIMONIES

I compiled a video collection of people's Hell Testimonies, where they experienced Hell through a near death experience or an out of body experience. The vast majority of these experiences line up with scripture, but it is still wise to pray for discernment while listening to these experiences.

I personally find them helpful, and I can see why God would grant these experiences to people, because it seems to bring them and many others into repentance and into a new stronger relationship with Jesus Christ.
